denying #FEMA funds, just like the abortion ban and attacks on transgender women, are a a forced #secession.

this is what #CivilWar looks like by guys who’ve never had to sign up to join the Army and, instead, use money to kill their opponents. this is what Civil War looks like when waged behind desks by criminals in business suits.

Hubby, who used to teach American history, reminded me of the #HartfordConvention from 1814-15. #Maine, #Massachusetts, #Vermont, #Connecticut, #NewHampshire and #RhodeIsland had considered leaving the union and forming their own "independent republic" in opposition to "political problems arising from the federal government's increasing power. "

Excerpt:
"Some delegates may have been in favor of New England's #secession from the United States and forming an #independent republic, though no solution was adopted at the convention. Historian Samuel Eliot Morison rejected the notion that the Hartford convention was an attempt to take New England out of the Union and give treasonous aid and comfort to Britain. Morison wrote: 'Democratic politicians, seeking a foil to their own mismanagement of the war and to discredit the still formidable Federalist party, caressed and fed this infant myth until it became so tough and lusty as to defy both solemn denials and documentary proof.' @debrashannon So yeah, the idea has been floated around. Vermont and New Hampshire would have an easier time of it, but it's not impossible. To not allow states to secede, especially under the rule of a MAD KING, is like forcing someone to stay in an abusive relationship, and not allowing them to get a divorce!

Four States Could Secede From US and Join #Canada to Avoid Trump—Democrat

Published Nov 29, 2024

A prominent Democratic New York State "Senator has floated the fanciful proposition that her state and its northeastern neighbors secede from the United States to join Canada to avoid President-elect Donald Trump's return to office.

"Liz Krueger, who chairs the New York State Senate Finance Committee, argued that the Empire State, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, could all suffer under Trump's new administration.

"Citing his proposed crackdown on immigration and promise of mass deportation, the Manhattan Democrat believes liberal and sanctuary states such as New York could be threatened with cuts in the amount of federal funding they receive, a move the incoming leader and his cabinet have suggested, should states oppose new policy measures.

"This is not the first time the New York Democrat has offered up a radical and improbable plan to counter Trump's policies, suggesting in September, ahead of his election win, that the bloc of blue states should join Canada.

" 'I thought I would suggest to Canada that instead of us all trying to illegally cross the border at night without them noticing, which is pretty hard because there's a lot of us, that they should instead agree to let us be the southeast province, a new province of Canada.

" 'And I offered, even though I hadn't gotten agreement from other states yet, that I thought New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, would combine and be a great new province as the southeast province of Canada,' Krueger said in an interview with news site City and State New York."

“We will be similar to Monaco.”

A lot going on here—

"The story of the Republic of Kinney is one of dismissed town needs, a wacky, bar-born plan and the power of media attention. It involves a feisty mayor with an eye toward the limelight, a pizza roll magnate with a spare car, and printed passports logged into a loose-leaf binder."

www.startribune.com · How a small Minnesota town ‘seceded’ from the U.S.“We will be similar to Monaco,” Kinney’s leaders said in the 1970s.

BTW all this “markets” devastation is billionaires nazis revenge against mother Earth for killing their "seasteading" dreams. so, instead, they want to break the #USA and #Canada into separate fiefdoms.

DO NOT MAKE ME TELL YOU IN 10 YEARS TIME, “TOLDYA”

billionaires are waging a non-conventional #secession and colonialist war.

Americans will have to end billionaires in equally non-conventional ways, starting with the USA maths for a billion.

it’s as real as daylight savings time.

So we've all heard about the Calexit movement...they're collecting signatures to authorize a ballot initiative for California to secede from the US.

I've since learned that other secession movements are gathering steam. The Cascadia movement wants Washington and Oregon to join with CA and form a new nation. A New York/New Jersey movement is brewing, and there's a campaign for a Republic of New England, to incorporate MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, and RI.

Interestingly, the Texas secessionists, who raise their heads every so often, seem to be quiet. And there's likely others that I am unaware of.

A Balkanization of the US is scary, to be sure, but at the same time, many have predicted it for a while. A common thread is taxation...not that taxes are too high, but that these states, which are among those that pay the highest in taxes, get little in return, and some are angry over what they feel is subsidizing the rest of the country.

Is it coming? I'm not sure, but if the country continues to destabilize, it may be inevitable.

Cheery thoughts for a Tuesday morning...

There are several reasons #secession is a terrible idea, even if we don't agree that it was settled in the 1860s.

One is that there are human beings who live in so-called red states, who will be victimized by the #fascists. We have no right to abandon them to be murdered.

Another is that secession won't bring peace. Because fascists have made clear they don't want to peacefully coexist with democracy, they want to destroy it.

@davidsirota

Another of many reasons showing that the US is broken. A highway engineer designed the sharp turn with guardrails but they were never installed.

Give Republicans what they want. No federal government. #secession Let national-states work out their own trade agreements, health insurance, social safety net and regulations.

@DeliaChristina and you can't back this out. Once something like this happens, it's over. You're compromised forever. Any Americans thinking there's still going to be something to vote about in 4 years, it's time to wake up. America is over.

We're watching a catastrophic collapse. There will be nothing to save. It is already beyond saving. The infrastructure they're destroying took generations to build. You have to build something new.

If you live in a state that is currently blue, your least catastrophic option is #secession. Larger states may have sufficient infrastructure to compensate for the collapse of the federal government but won't be allowed to do so while under it's authority.

Everyone should be working on building egalitarian and distributed dual systems that are not vulnerable to this type of capture.

Good luck.

Edit: it's also worth mentioning that I don't think secession is a good long-term strategy. You're just kicking the can down the road. States move towards authoritarianism by the simple nature of how hierarchy works.

I'm just saying that it could be the least bad way for some to crash. This is a crash. The question is not "how to avoid this" but "how to survive this."

New National Anthem

I had a moment today. I put the Bruins game on the radio just in time to hear the national anthem. Given the circumstances of the day it made me feel sick. I thought I was going to vomit. National anthem, my ass. What nation would that be? The fascist states of america? That nation? Fuck that. I don’t live in the US anymore (there is no US anymore), I live in Massachusetts.

So what should we use for a new Massachusetts national anthem? The obvious choice is probably “Must Have Got Lost” by the J Geils Band. That feels a little too obvious. If we wanted to go with an instrumental song I would suggest “Foreplay” by Boston. Again, probably not the best choice.

Assuming the other five New England States join in my little Massachusetts Independence crusade and we create the United States of New England, I would go with this one…

“New England” by Tanya Donelly. That would be pretty much perfect.
