@TomChapple I love his devotion to Maria, and the unyeilding moral compass that results from it. No matter what the cost, he'll protect her world. A world that she never even visited, and couldn't have fully understood why she loved it so much at the time his memories come back. But it's important to her, and that was all he needed to know.

This plays out in an interesting way in #SonicX when he tries to kill Cosmo to stop Dark Oak. The way Tails pulls her along as they run through the corridors to an escape pod openly echoes Shadow trying to save Maria. Yet he keeps pursuing them. Why? Because he was that determined to never repeat his old mistake, of allowing the perceived good of one person to outweigh the good of the many ever again.

This utilitarian mindset would make him a powerful enemy to Sonic, should they ever have opposing goals, since Sonic tends to get attached to individuals far more easily, defending them even at the expense of the common good.
