KymberlyMore what not to do when framing needlework. These by my grandparents were framed by *professional framing companies* (in Vermont South and Knox - both no longer exist). One was a tapestry, and another a woolen embroidery behind plastic (purchased as glass).1 Rusting staples, and mountains of them. Rusted fabric.2 Sticky tape - packing (!) tape was used, *on the fabric* - staining and brittleness.3 Heavy chipboard backing plate instead of a proper spanning frame - this swells and bows as it absorbs moisture, crumbles with age as the glues (!!) break down and wood oils come out - discolored fabric.4 Nailed in place through fabric, backboard and frame at an angle - rusted.*gah*The second - brown laminate (!!) backboard, masking tape, packing tape and more rusty staples, both originally nailed into the frame.
