I just taught myself to tie a True Bowline knot and a Sheepshank amongst others. What a wonderful little book.

Ties are oddly comforting to me. Not to wear, but as a reminder of how deeply quirky and arbitrary humans can be.

People in some of the most powerful positions and serious situations are expected to decorate themselves with a strip of colorful fabric tied around their neck. Can't be too colorful, though. In fact, for fancy events, it should just be black. Also, it shouldn't be too long, too short, too wide, or too narrow, and only certain knots are acceptable. If you get your color-cloth wrong, you will be ridiculed.
