When is modifying a #pattern helpful?

When isn’t it? 🤔

Seriously, with the exception of #testknitting I don’t recall the last time I followed a #knitting or #crochet pattern to a T. At the very least, I change the colors or the #Yarn or the needle/hook size.

Perhaps more importantly, I make mistakes. I’ve been known to start & frog projects multiple times before I find the rhythm of a pattern. Once I have it, things roll merrily along…until they don’t (which usually occurs when I’ve lost count or miscounted) At that point, I have a choice: to frog or to figure out how to fix it. Usually, I choose to “fix” it by adapting the next row/round to fit the pattern (or adjust my row counter to a row that fits what’s on my needles) & just keep going. Sometimes that even works & no one notices the mistake but me. I won’t lie though, I’ve also left a pile of unfinished projects with errors I can’t hide in my wake & whose yarn I hope to reuse.

Fair Warning: Mushroom Spam incoming soon, latest once I took them out for a photo shoot. LOL Finished the little guy yesterday evening, thus there's just a crappy "Yay, I'm done!" picture. Showing him off with his bigger sibling.
I'm very much still learning Amigurumi, so this time, it was about practicing with smaller yarn. Which I prefer to the Velvet yarn, as I can actually see the stitches. :D

I hope to show off something recent soon again, but until then, have some more older makes.
This one was super relaxing to make and now has a good home with my aunt, who jumped on it immediately, as she adored the colors. :-)

Continued thread

Spouse popped into A Darn Good Yarn to pick up yarn I need to finish a project, and they gave him one of their Trevithick Day freebies - cute stitch markers, a "handmade with love" label, and a yarn needle.

They're the sweetest, friendliest local yarn store folk we've met down this way and we love supporting them.

I'm hoping I'll get to have a peek at their rainbow wall while I'm here, which has 116 shades of one of their DK yarns!

My posting has slowed down a bit and that's ok. There's 164 of you following my crafting journey since I joined here back in January, and for this I thank you.
Thank you for sharing the love of crochet and handmade art with me and thank you for being an amazing community.

Today I'm showing you another cowl that could double as a headwrap. I'm still not a cowl-person, but I very much like the yarn and how it pooled. :-)
