Why hasn't an open source version of Discord been made yet? seems like it fits the same federated space conceptually. Wish i was smart enough to make it.
@arcadely I'm guessing a lot of the crowd who would get that going (for chat) still think IRC is viable or just needs updating to take back much of that space from Discord. And there are plenty of other audio chat options out there.
@shivoa 1/2 I guess like, my problem with IRC, and Teamspeak and i guess many other platforms is they are just old UX- they expect new users to figure it out, and the simplicity of services like discord, where you can just click on things and chat, or jump into a video sharing call, etc- is lost. I feel like the implication of servers being actually unique servers is a valuable concept, where people truly could self host and moderate their own servers.. i digress-
@shivoa 2/2 The Video sharing and audio sharing components are huge as to why discord got popular though. It all being bundled together was also big. If IRC could be rolled into something like that- that'd be huge haha. totally agree with you-
@arcadely there's Revolt (https://revolt.chat) in beta atm, but I guess its a problem of empty room, like Google+, everyone's friend is on Discord, so they're on discord
@deathofdevil Wow- I'll check it out! I guess i had the thought but never followed it up with research. I'll have to check these out.
@arcadely There is rocket.chat
Would that be what you're looking for?
@maksu I'll have to check it out! In my head it makes so much sense and i'm always nervous about "disruptor companies", but it definitely seems like what i'm envisioning.
