The itch thing keeps getting weirder, Funko reached to itch.io admin mom about the “accusatory statements on social media”, they are likely not happy with the bad publicity, but that’s on them.
@djlink what the hell?
@djlink thanks for the extra context
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place
I hope funko gets ddossed SO HARD they have to shut down the server until itch.io is back up.
They make absolute garbage, soulless crap and they caused a website where people post the exact opposite of soulkless crap to go offline.
@djlink "Brand Shield" is "BS" lol...
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place The alt text is incomplete--probably a character limit thing--so for anyone with low (bandwidth/vision) wondering what the image says, don't worry. it's just the linked post.
@tertle950 unfortunately character limit yes
@djlink what's the source of your screenshots of that account named itch.io?
@zachs18 @wildrikku it was this yes, thank you
@djlink no. Gaming community is not understanding. You have nothing to appreciate funko.
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place well this isn't going to help with the bad publicity lol, imagine taking down someone's website and then playing the victim
@djlink Funko trying desperately to absolve themselves of any responsibility
@djlink how the hell did they get the mom's number?
@fabiosantoscode not that hard these days with social media and especially facebook. we see that happening often when people reach family of someone's profile
@djlink AI-powered Streisand Effect. I never heard of itch.io until this kerfuffle got mentioned in the press. Now I not only know about them, I'm also inclined to think poorly about Funko.
@djlink "I'm telling on you!"
@djlink That's not "reaching out", that's harrassment.
@djlink I’d say this isn’t a problem with AI so much as it is a warning against using that registrar. Any company that reacts that obediently to an auto-generated complaint instead of acting in the interests of their paying client isn’t worth doing business with.
@djlink This reminds me when I got a breach notification for some service I never even heard of. Turns out it was some "online shopping protection" service that some of many stores I bought from apparently used this service (but have no clue which one) that leaked my buyer data. God knows what all 3rd parties mishandle and we don't even know it...
