I used to really like playing board and tabletop games where the odds were completely stacked against you, there was a good chance your character would go mad or die before the end, and it was mostly about holding back entropy for a few moments longer before the inevitable collapse, but for some reason I find it hard to find the enthusiasm for them anymore 🤔

@sinbad interesting, I wonder if it was one particular game or a couple of them that made that fun and now the ones you are playing don’t make it as enjoyable? Or even going back to the old ones?

@djlink I’ve played a few recently like Pandemic Legacy Season 0 and Arkham Horror the Card Game where I can see they’re good games but at the same time being constantly bombarded with bad news and problems beyond your control is far less fun to me than it used to be, even if we ultimately succeed. I think the last decade of real world events has killed the enjoyment of constant adversity games for me

@sinbad @djlink we played through Pandemic Legacy 0 recently. We were extremely lucky with draws and managed to complete it without getting in too much trouble but it was obvious how it could fall off a cliff quickly with a few bad draws and failures. Far too stressful!

@Devilbox @djlink we were ultimately glad we played it, and it had a *really* good on-brand surprise (you know the one) but yeah sometimes it was a bit daunting to set up knowing it was going to try hard to make your life as difficult as possible. We had more fun with season 1, and used to play Arkham Horror etc but I’m probably just not really looking for that kind of stress in my entertainment anymore
