I'm amazed that we're in the Late Capitalism of conflicts, climate emergency, refugees blocked off from ring-fenced resources, and rising threat of nuclear wars, and somehow there are still people who claim to believe that mass concentrations of centralised power and nation states are a good idea.

I felt compelled to give this a boost because, you know, professional politicians are playing real-life Battleship for their votes and careers and corporate pals no matter how many people get slaughtered, so things are ramped up even more today. But by this rationale I'll be boosting it every day with the grim prospects ahead so it's pretty foolish of me. FFS we have to oppose the very principle of hierarchical government and nation states, we have to delegitimise them, undermine them with things like mutual aid; all that drained energy for voting and playing by their rules is making things worse - always has - and we've little time left. Every spare moment we have left is crucial. Every bit of energy we have left to use must create community resistance.

@MediaActivist While I understand where you are coming from, not voting in the current climate is a terrible idea.

Right wing extremists are pretty well organized and motivated to vote. If moderate people don't vote, expect more right wing nuts in power.

@MediaActivist I understand you believe that. I just don't share your all or nothing view on it.

Democracies are not perfect, and we still need to find ways to defend them from autocrats, fascism and capitalism, but I believe it is the best way to organize the desires and needs of billions of people.

@glaskows I don't believe that, though, either, which I'm sure you'd expect. As you say, you understand I believe that power itself is the problem - therefore I reject the claim that we have "democracies" under hierarchies with concentrations of centralised power consisting of a careerist class of professional politicians. The fact is, no government ever has liberated, nor ever will liberate, all its people from oppression. Pumping activist energies into doomed "get out the vote" drives is buying more time for capitalists while our planet is being destroyed. They're laughing at us. It's really too bad.
