Isn't it obvious what Trump/Musk are doing with Canada and tariffs? He's trying to make Canadians miserable so they elect a conservative leader who promises to fix everything. People are idiots so it will work.

@Sustainable2050 @grumpygamer only to Mexico. As of 10 minutes ago they're still on to Canada.

@Stinkie @Sustainable2050 My point still stands. Wait for it...

@Sustainable2050 @Stinkie My point still stands. Wait for it...

@Sustainable2050 @grumpygamer "elect a conservative leader" does include someone, who was pressured into becoming one

@grumpygamer Seems plausible. I wonder if the wedge between the National Post and Doug Ford this accidentally created proves durable tho…

@mcc @grumpygamer I hope so. PostMedia is a blight. If them and Ford can tear eachother apart I would shed no tears

@grumpygamer "Some men just want to see the world burn."

I don't think their plans go any further than that.

@grumpygamer he did straight up say he wants Canada to be the 51st state. And that was within the past 2 days, on his goofy social media site.

@grumpygamer My take was 'he's alienating our allies so we will believe we have only ourselves to rely on and thus will respond more favorably to "Russia is our new best friend."

@grumpygamer Sort of the abuser manual, 'separate the woman from her friends so she will have no one to turn to/give her fact checks on how hinky this whole relationship is.'

@grumpygamer (Canadian here) While I'm shocked at the tariffs every Canadian poll ALREADY heavily favoured our conservative (republican) leader Pierre to replace the current liberal (democrat) leader Trudeau (who resigned because he was polling so badly). If anything, the liberals got a BOOST from their handling of this.

@bigpants @grumpygamer Yep; I worked the recent Nova Scotia election and a lot of people didn't even really know what they were voting for (provincial) just wanted Trudeau gone 🙄 And the ones who called the election counted on that and limited information from no VICs

@grumpygamer

Federally, I doubt its benefitting PP and the CPC.

Between the rhetoric of Mango Mussolini and Trudeau leaving, they've started trending downward in most recent polling.

Even the few public appearances of PP in recent days, the man seems confused, I don't think they know how to spin this without angering their pro-Trump base.

@grumpygamer my friend, other nations ain't like the United States of Northamerica

@jesusmargar all countries have a history of reacting to hard times by electing even worse leaders though

@grumpygamer don't worry, as USA keeps tariffs on all the world, the entire world will keep doing they Business and BRICS will welcomes anyone

@grumpygamer i think you're giving them way too much credit

@grumpygamer We were on track to pick PP at the next election, but Tory HQ is panicking because Trump keeps doing verifiably Bad Stuff and he hasn't distanced himself. People are pissed at the Alberta Premier too.

The fact that Trudeau just paused (probably halted, let's be real) the tariffs actually might help keep the conservatives to at least a minority government/hung parliament...

@grumpygamer it is very plausible, but either way Trumps actions have done more damage to the Canadian Conservative Party and it’s leader’s image than any of our lefty candidates could have done. They were a lock-in for a majority and now there’s a glimmer of a chance for a minority and even a non-zero or chance of the Liberals winning again.

My personal theory is that the tariffs happening this weekend were a smokescreen for Musk’s screen for Musk’s antics.

@grumpygamer The worst thing is that those who vote conservative won't even see that it was the plan all along, and that they're voting for Canadian Trump.

@grumpygamer Speaking as a Canuckistani, it further poisons me against right wingers. I don't want none of that craziness

@grumpygamer Ironically, we were well on our way to electing a conservative government and now, thanks to Trump, the country is united and swinging towards liberal again

@grumpygamer He doesn't need to do that. Canada is almost certainly going to elect the conservatives in the next election anyway :(

@grumpygamer
This is one of the more ridiculous uninformed shit takes I've seen here today, and this is saying something considering the platform.
(Free additional pro tip: if you want to stay in power, don't royally piss off 90% of your electorate with all kinds of bullshit and promise breaking.)

@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place yeah. And they are trying the same BS towards the EU.

@grumpygamer

I hope the Canadians (and others) stay sane.

Guess you cannot expect too good things from Musk, when waving Arms like the Austrian/German guy that put Europe on fire in the thousand years between 1933 and 1945. Plus claiming the Germans can only be saved by a Nazi party on the coming election ...
