Will chill from Twitter/X until after the US elections. Almost all the hate Godot got over the weekend was pretty much people who had not a clue what a game engine is, what Godot is, or what a FOSS / community made project is. Most of the ones who did were the usual haters.
Checking profile of haters, majority pro-trump people with weird religious symbology, or people with avatars/obsession for anime little girls.
Sometimes I feel I am too innocent for this world.
@reduz That's pretty much what Twitter's boiling down to at this rate, yeah. Been seeing more bluesky and fedi links shared around than ever
@reduz I have a feeling that this will not go away with US elections. This is new "social media" reality, where there is nothing social about it, and not much media either.
@aras Surprisingly, this is an entirely Twitter thing. There was no any real spilling anywhere else and the rest of the communities continued as if nothing.
Anyone I know not on Twitter has not even heard of it.
It seems most of the games/tech industry people moved here, and a lot of gamedevs moved to bluesky.
@reduz yeah I dunno, just a while ago (after Godot Meta blog post) Akien was lamenting that on mastodon the news got the most "hate", and good reactions elsewhere. Every corner has their own weirdness for what becomes pointless drama. Twitter might have most "anti-woke", Masto might have most "anything commercial is evil", etc.
@aras I will always prefer the extremes on this side to be honest
@reduz fair! I’d prefer no extremes, but reality apparently disagrees
@aras @zeux @reduz tbh I would not be at all surprised if the main reason the twitter stuff got so bad is just that it got picked up by the king gamergate grifter mark kern. The network effects are kind of random until they hit one of the asshole celebs and then at that point you have no choice but to lock everything down. Mastodon is more like the worst of programming reddit or hn or phoronix than that truly performative grifter driven outrage farming :')
@reduz @aras It makes perfect sense that this is Twitter thing because Musk has been trying to turn Xitter into a right-wing site since the start. He's been promoting all the alt-right grifters and diminishing everyone else. You may have been too focused on Godot to see it happening, but I assure you, Xitter is not Twitter anymore. It's the nazi bar.
@reduz Please keep up the good work on Godot, I really appreciate having a mainstream FOSS game engine available to me for both use and teaching.
Internet chuds gonna chud.
@reduz have you considered abandon Xitter totally? I don't think that thing is worth the time
@supernovafiles I noticed engagement in gamedev has consistently been going down on the platform, so most probably.
@reduz it's the same fuckers who go scouring the web for new targets to bully.
Distancing for a while is probably a wise choice - if they don't get any strong reactions, they'll get bored and move on to whoever is their next target of the week.
Felt sorry for all you Godot folks when I saw the news about it. Hope y'all are taking care of one another
@reduz it's definitely blown up out of proportion.
@reduz I feel like weird toxic voices are always in games. I remember "you can't make a real game if you can't make a game engine" "you can't make a real game in that game engine" "mobile games won't succeed" &c
For awhile it did negatively impact my mental state (and this was pre-Twitter PHPBB days)... I suppose it did force me to learn to the things, but now everyone makes Unity Mobile games (and hopefully soon everyone will be making Godot mobile games)
@pux0r3 I think you are right, but in large its likely because of the very young audience. A lot of these people and influencers were clearly aiming for <25.
@reduz it's definitely super frustrating too. My career took a turn into helping as many people make games as possible (ish, I could do better). And I hate arbitrary the gate keeping that crops up!
@reduz take care of yourself man. You and the whole Godot team do fantastic work, and normal people who don't treat "getting angry on twitter" as if it were their job see and appreciate that! Cheers!
@reduz Sounds like a very wise move, every time I think I've seen everything the haters find something new to be weird about, take care of yourself and keep up the good work!
@reduz perhaps I don't want to be involved with this but why are right wingers angry with a game engine?
@reduz How many hundreds of replies did you answer before giving up? Must be quite taxing…
@reduz Ye, sadly we noticed. Check out the discussions already here https://hachyderm.io/@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com/113237834235105645 (or alternatively here https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/28875558)
@db0 Looks like Valve folks say their platform is so advanced that this fixes itself automatically overtime. Looking forward to it.
@reduz I don't think any real game developer really cares about the Twitter drama.
These hate posts on Twitter come from users who were not active users of the community and who had not previously contributed anything to the engine or the community, so who cares?
When I inspected the Twitter accounts behind the hate posts, I got the uncanny feeling that many of them aren not even real humans.
@reduz Do like Brazil and abandon twitter.
@reduz If you made the "Wokot" tweet without expectation of being hate-piled by right-wing chuds you need a more savvy social media manager. I fully thought you wanted to wallow in that grime too when I saw it. It's the site meta now. Musk pays blue checks for generating engagement via controversy, which usually just means spouting hate speech. Definitely avoid if you want to retain sanity.
@reduz look forward reading your thoughts here! Hated having to go to X just for that ;)
@reduz quite a fortunate time, since I left Twitter a few days before it was blocked here in Brazil, that place is terrible and for a long time I doubt whether any engagement there were helpful anyhow
@reduz It's a bit of a lengthy video, but it's quite eye opening how much X promotes far-right content on their algorithms, which explains why this is so exclusive to X (and Youtube on some extent by drama youtubers).
This drama was non-existent on my bluesky feed, and on my mastodon feed just people defending Godot.
@reduz In all honesty, these guys will use any opportunity to harass everyone who isn't like them, and that's not organic at all, but coordinated.
As someone who lives in Brazil, which used to have a far right federal gov., I watched how destruction for their own benefit is the only thing they do and care, this is also visible by "fake gamers" who just makes hateful content about diverse games, and will distort reality thanks to social media post-truth.
@reduz Anyway, I wish the best for the Godot team , this was really a very Twitter thing with some exception with drama youtubers who has nothing to do with Gamedev in general at all.
@reduz Please. Some of the greatest philosophers in the world have anime profile pics.
@reduz FWIW, I'm subjectively very happy that it means you'll be posting elsewhere (here) instead.
@reduz
> majority pro-trump people or people with avatars/obsession for anime little girls
Are you for real?
@njamster It seems better for mobile, but from my perspective, it seems less usable than the default UI on a PC.
@HugoCortell To each their own! I mostly use Mastodon on PC, and have been very happy with Phanpy so far. It groups notifications, has solid threading for replies, does not forward me to other servers all the time, clearly indicates direct messages with a specific background, and allows me to follow a group of hashtags in one view – none of which the default UI can currently do to the same degree, if at all.
@reduz dude, what trump. As far as I'm aware you don't even live in us. What the frak are you talking about. You code programs. What does that have to do with politics of another country?
@reduz Fine, but why did you hide a dude that literally just said “?” In the replies like why, it not possible to be confused about thar( in my honest pov) https://x.com/Khaelus_/status/1839661039329181962
@reduz
Don't take this wrong, but there are a couple wrong statements here..supporting trump has nothing to do with what transpired. I have to tell you again code and math do not care about your race, religion, political alliance or sexuality...that was the issue that your team brought to the table..I consider you a reasonable person, so just be that, stop blaming the victims.
@reduz Don’t let Xitter get you down, we’ll always support the project. I’m sure no one there even knows how to code they all weird incles, but I’m going to learn to use your engine because it makes me feel represented and included. Keep doing what you're doing!
@reduz I'm glad I chose to leave Twitter quite a while ago. I prefer communities where people treat everyone with the respect they deserve as much as possible.
@reduz You really should take a brake. Your response is highly unprofessional - mixing your american elections and if it doesnt work - blaiming people on the Internet for having anime pfp.
This is silly and I hope You will realise that someday.
Wish You well
@reduz so much drama..focus on your work on the engone and let the haters be quiet again.
@reduz@mastodon.gamedev.place yeah you look like you say the n word behind closed doors, so much lost potential.
@reduz@mastodon.gamedev.place >España
Boludo querete un poco por favor y deja de hablar boludeces
