@godotengine It's strange how 2d batching is nowhere in the plans. The issue is raised in developer discussions all the time, to the point that it's often advised to use Godot V3 for mobile 2D games
@vadersb it is on the team's radar! 
In the meantime, maybe someone on the forum (https://forum.godotengine.org/) has a workaround that could help
