Wondered how my Mac can suddenly be out of disk space. Hello 130 GB of unspecified "System Data”. x_x
@jonikorpi don’t worry, storage is cheap, you can just upgra… oh wait
@sinbad Had to go check how much they gouge for extra storage these days and lmao it’s even worse than I thought
@jonikorpi
It's obscene isn't it
I had to buy a Mac for the company recently and was horrified (although not surprised) by it
@sinbad
@piteco @jonikorpi utterly outrageous. I mean sure when they were at the bleeding edge with the first PCIE storage you could forgive it, but 700 for exactly the same 2TB tech I just bought for less than a quarter of the price is just daylight robbery
There’s no reason they couldn’t put user-upgradeable storage in their laptops these days, they simply choose not to
@sinbad @jonikorpi and they naturally make this upgrade an once-in-a-lifetime decision (well, the hardware's lifetime), inducing people to spend more and avoid the frustration of not having enough storage or RAM in the future
For work purposes we needed plenty of both, so we paid for the upgrades - but I still feel like a sucker every time I think of how much we paid for it
@piteco @jonikorpi I was Mac first most of the 2010s and although it started great it steadily became worse value and more exploitative, I’m glad I jumped ship
Seriously?
An 8TB SSD drive is about £700 and they want to charge you an extra £2k for it?
I'm so glad I never got into Apple products...
