Andreas Gohr<p>remember when I asked for a replacement for <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disqus</span></a> and then ranted about how none of the available solutions would also integrate with <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastodon</span></a>?<br><br>Well shit. Marianne Spiller<p>Thanks for all replies!<br>Leaving <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/GitHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GitHub</span></a> has a different implication: I'll have to dismantle comments on my <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/blog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blog</span></a> using <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/utterances" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>utterances</span></a>. And as <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> &amp; others are not a valid alternative, it seems I have to build this alternative by myself 🤯</p>

If not then I would suggest some static web generator. I use <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/Pelican" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pelican</span></a>, which is <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> , but I am sure there is something in <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/PHP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PHP</span></a> as well. With these it actually doesn't matter what language generated those static <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/HTML" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HTML</span></a> pages. Also much more secure when you have no user input at all (or delegate to <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a>).</p>

OMG! Ubuntu!<p>Disqus Comments Not Loading? It’s Not Me Bro, It’s Firefox</p><p>Over the last 12 months I’ve received a trickle of messages from readers (through the tip form) asking why the Disqus comments section doesn’t load, or comes and goes. Comments are auto-enabled all articles I publish. And if comments are intentionally disabled for an article (which does happen, albeit rarely) you won’t see a comment count (functions as an anchor link to the comments section) in the ‘meta’ area beneath the headline on the article page. So what’s the cause of comments not loading? Mozilla Firefox with Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) mode set to ‘Strict’. The feature —I won’t be :sys_more_orange:<br><a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/News" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>News</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> <a href="https://hello.2heng.xin/tags/SiteStuff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SiteStuff</span></a> </p><p>:sys_omgubuntu: <a href="https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/05/disqus-comments-not-loading-its-not-me-bro-its-firefox" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/05/disqus</span><span class="invisible">-comments-not-loading-its-not-me-bro-its-firefox</span></a></p>

Drew Naylor<p>I figured out how to get <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> working in <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> when using <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/EnhancedTrackingProtection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EnhancedTrackingProtection</span></a> : you have to turn it off for that site, but it's ok if you have <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/uBlockOrigin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uBlockOrigin</span></a> since it'll block the actual trackers on an average site using Disqus (my sample size is 3, including my own for a site that only has Disqus and nothing else considered a tracker).</p>

XtoF<p>Today I noticed that <a href="https://shelter.moe/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> started serving ads on my website, because I use their free tier plan. The alternative being to pay $11 per month! 😮 </p><p>So I removed Disqus altogether and, with it, the ability to post comments on my articles ; until I can set-up a proper alternative.</p><p>Good riddance! Disqus is full of trackers anyway and I should have trashed it a long time ago.</p>
thomastc | frozenfractal<p>&quot;Hi there,</p><p>You&#39;re currently on our free Disqus Basic plan, which is our ad-supported tier that comes with only the most rudimentary features.</p><p>Ads will begin appearing on your comment section shortly.&quot;</p><p>Am I glad that I migrated my blog from <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>disqus</span></a> to self-hosted <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/isso" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>isso</span></a> just this week! At the time it felt like way too much effort for a small thing, but now I&#39;m glad I did it.</p>
XtoF<p>Disqus is informing me that they will soon start to serve <a href="https://shelter.moe/tags/advertisement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>advertisement</span></a> on my website unless I pay for the "ad free tier".</p><p>I know that they must earn something for their work. Oblomov<p>One of the best ways in which this could improve the experience on some of the blogging sites is that it would remove the need to rely on privacy-invading <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> or (even worse) <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/OpenWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWeb</span></a> comment systems in favor of native + Fediverse comments.</p><p>There's some very good potential here, so I guess the question is: how do we (or rather: who will) take this up with the <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/ComicPress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ComicPress</span></a> developers and the authors using its system?</p>
