A Green Heron taking off, neck stretched out and head and neck showing against its left wing as it leaves the ground. Yellow legs trailing. Grass in the background, some water can be seen just at the foot of the frame. The bird has a grey-blue body, the neck is cinnamonon the sides and cheeks, white stripey down the front. Long pointed dark bill and green-blue crown. Yellow eyes. The outer edges of the wings are blue-grey, blurred by motion.

On my bike tour (see last toot), this tawny #owl (Strix aluco) launched into flight from a branch less than five metres away from me. It landed on a tree not too far away, and patiently waited for me to get my photo gear out of my #cargobike, mount the camera on the tripod, and take some pictures.
