Me: ‘No more features.’ Unity: ‘But… what if we added just ONE more?’ And that’s how feature creep is born. #Unity3D #gamedev #featurecreep
Have you ever had to abandon a mechanic or feature because it was too ambitious? How did you handle that decision and what did you learn from it? #Unity3D #featurecreep #indiedev
What’s your strategy for balancing new features with bug fixes during late-stage development? #Unity #scoping #featurecreep

Feature creep:
- Ground textures and tree textures should have an alternative winter set.
- A third fall set with red leaves instead of green.
- The fall set should have fallen leaves on the grass textures.
- Fall grass texture should have a different footstep sound, and affect sneaking volume.
- The winter ground textures should give a stealth bonus...

Uh oh, #woodworking feature creep.
Didn't really think too much about how the adjustable height mechanism is going to work and some fancy scrap got produced.
Good thing I work with wood from the junk pile! :)
It's only been like a whole effing month and a half since the moment I thought "let's quickly implement a streamlined function to aggregate by time" in the new version of the 'distantia' package, and the moment I got something workable barely resembling the original idea.
I've learned a lot about handling time in R in the process, but feature creep is a thing, and the package never really needed this one.
I guess I dug my own hole there!
Day 1: I should try learning to make a videogame. How hard can a mid-90s style, 2D iso-RPG be? Should be easy even for me with zero experience.
Day 6: Well, it's definitely going to have to be in full 3D to allow characters to climb up walls and look or squeeze into windows. I'll also need to create a system to determine how far noise travels around corners and through closed doors, and how environmental noise sources like waterfalls or wind in the trees drowns out footsteps...
And it's in those situations where daggers and unarmed combat suffer the smallest darkness penalties.
Just realized the devs of #Terraria have been working on an update for over a year. I've watched this dance enough times to know what that means. #OnePointFive #FeatureCreep
This dev diary is a bit more personal, about the relationship between working on something you want to work on, feature creep, and mental wellbeing. Hope it comes across as meaningful and not just rambling.

Did I say character progression? I meant implementing a #particle system in #playdate #pulp of course!

Huzzah! I'm mostly (out of not liking to exit Unity) making my own basic markdown editor/reader! :)
It's kind of dumb, but I'm liking it so far, and I'm hoping it'll help me organise my thoughts inside the engine a little better. :)
