Hotspur🏳️🌈🇺🇦<p>"Lilac," Kyriak Kostandi, 1902.</p><p>Kostandi (1852-1921) was a Ukrainian artist and scholar; he was a member of a group of Realists known as the Itinerants but also experimented with Impressionism, as we see here.</p><p>The delicate morning light touches the domes of a Ukrainian village, and outside a wall, by some blooming lilac bushes, a woman sits and weeps. We have no indication what is making her so sad, but it seems appropriate for the current situation in Ukraine. It's a beautiful, yet sad and enigmatic painting.</p><p>A somber Flower Friday, to be sure.</p><p>From the Odessa Fine Arts Museum.</p><p><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Art</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/UkrainianArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UkrainianArt</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/KyriakKostandi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KyriakKostandi</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Impressionism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Impressionism</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Lilacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lilacs</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Sadness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sadness</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/FlowerFriday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlowerFriday</span></a></p>
