Astrospace interview with Tim Flohrer, head of the European Space Agency's Space Debris Office: "What is actually making our job more difficult today compared to a few years ago, is the rapid increase of active satellites. ... The effort we have to put today in this coordination activities is enormous, and rapidly increasing. And the complexity of the process results also in increased collision risks."

#Falcon1 failed three times before tasting success. #Spectrum is somewhat larger and more capable than Falcon 1, with performance in line with #Firefly's Alpha rocket.

The fully assembled Spectrum rocket stands about 28 meters 📏 tall and measures more than 2 meters in diameter. The expendable launcher is designed to haul payloads up to 1 metric ton (2,200 pounds) into #LEO arstechnica.com/space/2025/03/

If you're a woman living in Dublin and either a sole trader, running a business, or vaguely considering doing so, LEO WIB group is amazing, and hands down the best fifty quid I spend each year.

You get aforementioned Weekly Coffee Zoom, a monthly in-person event, and twice a year they really push the boat out for Summmer Event and the Christmas Party.

I'm a member of the Dublin Local Enterprise Office group for Women in Business and we do weekly Zoom meetings. Sometimes it's just a coffee meetup, sometimes it's a talk from a member who shares their expertise on a niche subject.

Today that expert was me! 🎉

My expert talk was a very condensed primer on FOSS and The Fediverse where I only uhm a million times. @mastodonie gets mentioned a bit 😉

For a limited time only you can watch it here!

There are reports that the brightness of some of the Chinese #Qianfan satellites is varying on short timescales. (e.g., satobs.org/seesat/Mar-2025/004)

This behavior suggests that these satellites (and possibly others) from the second Qianfan launch are currently tumbling in orbit.

»#Eutelsat already supports government and institutional communications in #Ukraine […] even with only 630 or so #LEO #satellites, backed up by 35 linked satellites in higher, geostationary orbit, it offers the same capabilities as #Starlink in #Europe. Starlink promises broadband at up to 200 megabits per second, Eutelsat 150.«
