Desertion rates especially in “DNR” and “LNR” are huge and there’s a good reason for that — Russia conducted an illegal mobilisation in the occupied territories in the first place, already in early 2022. They were grabbing anyone, literally capturing men from the streets. Mobilisation on occupied territories is already a war crime, but it was also Russian tactics from the beginning of the war. It is also the largest threat for any peace plans that assume Russian control over Ukraine’s territories — the process will repeat and the army will be used for new territorial conquests, this time in Europe.
