Yehor 🇺🇦<p>So I replaced my <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Proxmox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Proxmox</span></a> fleet of mini PCs with a powerful <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/TrueNAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TrueNAS</span></a> I built myself and have something to say.</p><p>Sometimes <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Docker</span></a> is the only option to <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/selfhost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhost</span></a> a service. And with Proxmox it will be a double virtualization - Docker inside a VM or LXC.</p><p>Sometimes you need the same storage attached to several services.</p><p>With TrueNAS you have no issues with that. You can have some services in Docker, some in LXCs and some in VMs. You can attach the same storage at least to Docker and LXC. TrueNAS is so much better for the <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> than Proxmox. IMHO at least.</p><p>I still have Proxmox for public services like the blog and Gitea.</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/homeserver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeserver</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosting</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/selfhost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhost</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/diynas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diynas</span></a></p>
HACK13<p>Hello my fellow mutuals and fellow furry site owners. I finally got around to making some proper 88x31 buttons. CyberLoner<p>Hey guys, I just wanted to share my achievement from today!</p><p>So last week I migrated my Jellyfin server from my NAS to my retired Dell desktop since I had built myself a new PC and was moving services to the old desktop once I put Debian 12 on it to save resources on the NAS, and today I noticed that my CPU was maxing out during transcoding, so I decided to begin the journey of enabling and configuring hardware acceleration on the server and host so Jellyfin could make use of the RX 550 GPU in the desktop, and also not burn out my CPU.</p><p>Well, 3 hours of configuring, watching videos for extended periods of time to test, and staring at htop monitoring screens, I finally got it done! I am so happy with this, and I'm glad that I could do this to save the resources for future projects!</p><p><a href="https://defcon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/jellyfin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jellyfin</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/selfhost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhost</span></a></p>
