Tilda Moose, citizen<p>I'm super glad to be rid of M$ win7 and fully back with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/UbuntuStudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuStudio</span></a>, breathing new life into my 10 year old Dell desktop pc. Missing the luxury of Ableton's familiar workflow, but quickly filling the gap with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/LMMS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LMMS</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Ardour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ardour</span></a>. Already got a dance track sketched in just a few days, most of which has been spent on familiarisation with the unknown. Now I'm the production bottleneck; sample libraries vs original recordings, self doubt as a composer, the usual. Composition encouragement welcome :)</p>

Eve 😘📚<p>Do not under any circumstances attempt to upgrade Ubuntu Studio 22. Failing to upgrade is actually the best case scenario. If you need the gory details, they are <a href="https://toot.cat/@EveHasWords/113911543143975254" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>. Be aware it gets quite angry and some of my opinions may not line up with yours.</p><p>If you're on a 22 LTS which <em>isn't</em> Studio, you <em>may</em> be fine. However, if you have installed any Python packages with <code>pip</code>, you are going to have a bad time. Python wants you to use <code>venv</code> for that stuff now and they're forcing the issue.</p><p>I have not found adequate advice on how to summon your scripts with <code>venv</code> on Linux without just launching the <code>venv</code> and calling them from inside that. I don't consider that a viable option. It's absurd to launch a <code>venv</code> every time you open a terminal window. I assume there is a way to do it. People are happy to talk about how with regard to Windows. I will find it eventually. First thing popping up is a nag screen asking for donations. But donations only via <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/crypto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crypto</span></a>! Weird!</p><p>The <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/VST3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VST3</span></a> download works, while the <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/UbuntuStudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuStudio</span></a> VST3 package doesn't install. (metpackage “lsp-plugins” will install <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/VST2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VST2</span></a>, <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/CLAP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CLAP</span></a> and LADSPA)</p><p>But the <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/ParametricEqualizer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ParametricEqualizer</span></a> of the VST3 version doesn't allow to set the band width. It's broken. Can't turn the knob.</p><p>Unfortunately, <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/Lightworks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lightworks</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/NLE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NLE</span></a> with its shitty internal EQ could profit from the LSP EQ, but supports only VST3 due to Steinberg not licensing VST2 any more.</p><p>And I haven't even tried the sound of these yet.</p><p>So it's way more convenient to use well-known <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/FabFilter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FabFilter</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/ProQ3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProQ3</span></a> via <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/LinVST" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinVST</span></a>.
