Thoughts on Everything under the Sun or I am a guilty Secularist<p><strong>2024 in Music</strong></p><p>Amazon music shows that John Carroll Kirby, Dr. John and Iggy Pop were the top three artists from My Top (49) Songs 2024 playlist. Expanding to my top 10 would add: Quasimoto, Grateful Dead, Alice Coltrane, Blood Incantation, Beastie Boys, Songs: Ohia and MF Doom. In that order. For dub/reggae the list includes Culture, Keith Hudson and Sizzla.</p><p>Looking back over what I posted to the blog, NPR’s Tiny Desk seems to be the clear winner. Of other videos, the artist I have probably returned to the most is Saint Levant. Though I was just listening to <a href="https://officialcommon.bandcamp.com/album/the-auditorium-vol-1" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Auditorium Vol. 1</a> this past weekend.</p><p>One last minute entree is <a href="https://www.nts.live/shows/raga-vibrations/episodes/raga-vibrations-21st-december-2024" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">this</a> excellent tribute to Zakir Hussain, from Greg Davis, for the final Raja Vibrations of the year. Which I’ve played more than once already.</p><p>I didn’t buy much vinyl but I did pickup a copy of <em>Foreign Smokes</em> by <a href="https://billmackay.bandcamp.com/album/foreign-smokes" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">BCMC</a>. What a treat! Plus, my wife got me the reissue of <em><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Tubby_Meets_Vivian_Jackson" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Walls Of Jerusalem</a></em> for Christmas, which I’ve wanted forever! There were also a few vintage Bruce Cockburn, Kris Kristofferson, Ry Cooder and the like, I found out thrifting. While thanks to my son, been regularly listening to Raffi and other childhood albums we inherited from my wife’s parents. </p><p>Was lucky enough to catch <a href="https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/charley-crockett/2024/mission-ballroom-denver-co-13aca145.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Charley Crockett at Mission Ballroom</a> and <a href="https://www.artscomplex.com/events/detail/andre-3000-604325" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">André 3000 live at Ellie Caulkins Theatre</a>. Both fantastic nights, with amazing but very different vibes. Charley and band had energy to match the large crowd/venue size. We were on a double date, there were lots of drinks and good times. Much to my surprise the theater was not sold out for Andre and company, though I got the sense they’d have been doing the same thing regardless of crowd/size. They were in their own zone for sure, though they definitely brought us along. All in all, a more refined date night at an intimate venue I’d never been to, would recommend!</p><p><span></span></p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://namhenderson.wordpress.com/tag/2024/" target="_blank">#2024</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://namhenderson.wordpress.com/tag/music/" target="_blank">#Music</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://namhenderson.wordpress.com/tag/npr-music-tiny-desk-concert/" target="_blank">#NPRMusicTinyDeskConcert</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://namhenderson.wordpress.com/tag/saint-levant/" target="_blank">#SaintLevant</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://namhenderson.wordpress.com/tag/zakir-hussain/" target="_blank">#ZakirHussain</a></p>
