Dave Johnson<p>When you hear ANYONE talk about government budget deficits or debt: THANK THEM for making the case for restoring pre-Reagan/Thatcher tax rates on the wealthy &amp; their corporations.</p><p>Top tax rates in the US were 90% on the rich and 50% on their corporations. Inheritance 77%. UK is similar. What would be the effect on deficits if those rates were restored?</p><p>YES I understand <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/mmt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mmt</span></a> <br> This is about shutting up conservatives and their ridiculous propaganda.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/deficits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deficits</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/taxes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>taxes</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/debt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>debt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/neoliberaism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neoliberaism</span></a></p>
Dave Johnson<p>I'm so old I remember when Reagan &amp; Thatcher dramatically cut taxes on the rich and their corporations and dramatically increased funding of military companies, and then said we have to cut everything government does to make people's lives better because of "deficits" and "we're running out of money."</p><p>And "conservatives" have been at it ever since!</p><p>What I don't understand is why people never catch on?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/taxcuts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>taxcuts</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/deficits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deficits</span></a></p>
