EmberI think it is a very natural reaction to feel inclined towards uncritical acceptance of non-western political narratives in response to disillusionment with what you know of the world being exposed as western propaganda. It is important, however, not to take recognition of western disinformation as immunity to propaganda. Disillusionment with one narrative is not evidence of another. One of the most clear examples of this is with leftists that rightfully point out the sensationalism of western narratives about North Korea, but who ultimately end up pedalling the equally sensationalized and misleading state propaganda of North Korea.We can do better than that. Leftism grows from being critical about the world. EmberI feel as though recently I've seen an increase in leftists for whom "anti-capitalism" is practised as merely apathetic capitalism.Too many people that use capitalism as an excuse to do whatever they want. Progress in veganism, climate activism, feminism, queer rights, etc. can all wait until after their vision of a revolution comes. Why build up social movements using strong anti-capitalist foundations when you can use "anti-capitalism" to tear them down instead, relinquishing yourself of the obligation to participate in those movements.It's something I've found very frustrating, especially considering the current rise of fascism.If your "leftism" exists merely to delay and hinder social movements until your vision of a post-capitalist world arrives, then in practice you live effectively as a conservative.
