The third port on our 2008 honeymoon cruise was Keelung on Taiwan's northern coast. We decided not to explore the city or the country's capital, Taipei, but instead headed off on a tour that first brought us to Nanya, considered a natural garden. Sandstone rock formations - many of them named - lined the area on the shore. A shame the weather wasn't very accommodating, and we were soaked through to our underpants by the time we boarded our bus again, but beautiful nonetheless.

It's a grey day and we're looking out to sea from a shoreline dominated by sandstone rock formations. In this portrait view shot the right half of the view is filled with two large columns of sandstone rock. Both have layers of light and dark sediment laying at a shallow angle, seemingly leaning down to the right a little. The nearest column seems to be rougher and has a few clumps of greenery hanging over it, hugging it from just out of view. The column behind has a smoother, more conical shape. More sandstone rocks are in the water to the left which is frothy with the foam of the waves breaking around it. It all feels exposed, damp, but not cold.

Throwback one year to Grand Lodge at Heaton Park.

The Grand Lodge was commissioned in 1807 to be an impressive main entrance to the park.
Built from ashlar sandstone it is a triumphal arch with two floors of accommodation.
The lodge is home to a memorial plaque to the 'Manchester Pals' soldiers who trained in the park during World War One.
