Different Than<p>Today, on <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/TransDayOfVisibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TransDayOfVisibility</span></a> , I'd like to say something that doesn't really need to be said to this group, probably:</p><p>Why should you support <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/trans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trans</span></a> lives, identities, and rights?</p><ol><li>Because you care about equality</li><li>Because you support freedom and autonomy</li><li>Because <strong>trans identities and lives are under attack.</strong></li></ol><p>Fascism always attacks some scapegoat groups. They are always less powerful than the status quo dominant groups. They are always seen by many people in the dominant groups as "lesser" or "undesirable" or "immoral", etc. The scapegoating is critical for building fascist power and momentum. It's critical as a rationalization for removing civil rights and humanitarian protections. </p><p>It doesn't matter who the scapegoats are.</p><p>If #1 and #2 above aren't reason enough to protect trans lives, then focus on #3. You support and protect whoever is being attacked by fascists. If it's trans people, you protect them. If it's gay people, you protect them. If it's Black, Native, Latino/Hispanic, Asian, Jewish, poor, homeless, or undocumented people, you protect them. If it's pedophiles or people with felony criminal records, you protect them.</p><p>You support the scapegoats <em>because</em> they are scapegoats, even if you can't find any empathy for them. You do this to fight <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/fascism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fascism</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/antifa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>antifa</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/scapegoat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scapegoat</span></a></p>

KnowProSE.com<p>This is an update of “<a href="https://knowprose.com/2023/12/28/a-tale-of-two-ais/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">A Tale of Two AIs</a>” because, it ends up, there’s a third: The scapegoat. </p><p>This weekend, I was pointed at “<a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2024/04/13/mark-oconnell-the-machine-does-it-coldly-artificial-intelligence-is-already-killing-people/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">‘The Machine Does It Coldly’: Artificial Intelligence Can Already Kill People</a>” on Mastodon, <a href="https://mastodon.social/@maddler@mastodon.ie/112266285727802309" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">which inspired a conversation</a> and part of this post. </p><p>The trouble with headlines like that is that the amorphous and opaque blob of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ is blamed for killing people, removing the responsibility from those that (1) created and trained the artificial intelligence and, (2) trained it. </p><p>The use case of artificial intelligence in war is nothing new. Ukraine saw the first <em>announced</em> use of artificial intelligence in war, from dealing with misinformation to controlling drones. </p><p>So, referring back to ‘A Tale of Two AIs’, we have the artificial intelligence that is marketed, the artificial intelligence that exists, and now the artificial intelligence as a scapegoat. </p><p>It’s not just war either.
