Vivienne Dunstan<p>Cursing the National Records of Scotland and their somewhat botched recent website upgrade for breaking lots of existing links to their content. Which can be a very big practical problem for researchers and their published work. Lots of their old website content now only available via a web archive. <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/website" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>website</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/NRS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NRS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/NationalRecordsOfScotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NationalRecordsOfScotland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/History" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>History</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ScottishHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScottishHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Archives" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Archives</span></a></p>

Hamilton later escaped safely to France, and members of Moray's political enemies (kin to <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/MaryQueenOfScots?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MaryQueenOfScots</a> ) were tried and convicted of taking part in the conspiracy. <br> <br> The bottom panel shows his funeral, officiated by Rev. John Knox (who made an exception to his Protestant Reformationist beliefs in order to speak at the funeral).<br> <br> This window was made in 1881 by James Ballatine and Son. Vivienne Dunstan<p>Doing some research, and amused by the story of the handwritten card placed above the fireplace in Alyth Reading Room in 1858, telling people about an upcoming meeting there to discuss maybe founding a public library. Unusually for me who doesn’t easily visualise things, I now have a clear mental image of a cosy fireplace, with seats beside it, and an enigmatic handwritten card resting above. She was not executed but died while being held for interrogation. Her grave was later robbed by phrenologist Joseph Neil Paton, father of the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Scottish?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Scottish</a> painter of fairies, Joseph Noel Paton. Wood from her coffin was used to make a walking stick for Andrew Carnegie. The people of Fife have called for a return of her missing remains.
