I guess there is some fair criticism that can be directed at Palworld but "it's not as hopeful/upbeat as Pokémon-likes are supposed to be" strikes me as... odd?

Thinking the premise of Pokémon to its absurd conclusion is what Palworld is all about. That's what's original about it.
