On the cusp of spring, Brasside Pond, such a gorgeous spot that's all but hidden behind HMP Frankland near Durham in North East England. A Site of Special Scientific Interest, it's the largest expanse of unpolluted open water (apart from reservoirs) in County Durham and is regarded as the most important breeding site for wildfowl in the county.

Love this 'olde world' buckled window in Saddler Street, Durham in North East England. This is the throughfare coming down from the cathedral, leading on to Durham Market Place and which retains many elements of its medieval origins. Walked up and down it many times and when researching my family history, discovered a link to a 19th century confectionary business which occupied part of the present-day Waterstones University Bookshop.

Lovely afternoon for a history hike on the #EnoRiver! In addition to our friendly and knowledgeable #EnoRiverAssociation guide, we were fortunate to have two local genealogy enthusiasts who had each traced their personal ancestry in the area back to the pre-Revolutionary War era. And of course it turned out that they were distantly related...

A wealth of local lore on a glorious sunny day - what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
