I like to reflect on my passion for Star Trek. Today is the funeral burial for my grandfather. The reason Star Trek has been so all-encompassing is because of my grandfather. At a young age I saw him watching #tng and I wanted to do the same. When I was ten, I was finally old enough to watch a series from beginning to end on first run broadcast. That was #ent. I remember how excited he was when “Broken Bow” aired. From then on, each Wednesday he’d let me stay up late to watch every episode with him.

At lot of my Trek viewing memory from childhood is largely “All Good Things…” (my favorite), and #fc. However #ent holds the fondest memories I associate with my grandfather. While between the two of us I’m the Trekkie, it was something positive I bonded over with him. When I watch episodes like “Shuttlepod One”, “The Andorian Incident”, “Horizon”, “Similitude” or “Cold Station 12”, I am filled with joy. It makes me feel like a child all over. Most of all, I think of my grandfather.

Linux font gurus, I could use help please!

I put a new .ttf font in ~/.local/share/fonts
File ownership and permissions are fine
I've run fc-cache -f -v
When I run fc-list, the new font is in the output, by the correct name.
The font shows up in some desktop programs, such as gedit and pluma.
It does not show up in LibreOffice Writer.
Other fonts in the same directory show up in fc-list, Pluma, and LibreOffice.

Day 28- Fave Episode Set in the Present Day

Well there are two ways to go about this, so I choose “Future’s End” and “Future’s End Part II”. It was technically set in the present day when the episode was filmed. It was broadcast 16 days before the movie #fc released in theaters, but carries over aspects of the impact time travel had, mainly the lack of a Eugenics War (Tom fails to mention this, as a self-proclaimed 20th history buff, suggesting history was alerted before the events of this episode). Aside from this it is critically the single most important episode of #voy, in which The Doctor gains his mobile emitter.

On top of this there are the wonderful guest stars Sarah Silverman and Ed Begley, Jr.

A note on changed history: It was established in “Space Seed” that the Eugenics War happened in the 1990s. By the time of #fc, we have no mention of Eugenics War, but do for World War III, which suggest this episode is the chronically first instance of a time shift.

É o conto que deu origem ao filme "O Dia Em Que A Terra Parou" (The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1951). Leia mesmo que você já tenha assistido ao filme, com certeza irá te surpreender!

PS: O Volume 2 contém "O homem bicentenário" (Isaac Asimov)

Day 9- Fave Captain’s Speech/Monologue

"I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done!"- Picard ( #fc)

#fc was the first Trek movie I saw in theaters at the age of five. Yes, the needle scene scared me.
