* At 902 PM CDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain with water rescues ongoing and multiple roads
closed due to high water over them. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — Drenching rain along the Texas-Mexico border let up Friday, but rescues were still ongoing a day after severe storms trapped residents in their homes, forced drivers to abandon their vehicles on flooded roads and shut down an airport. At least three people died.

" At 1044 PM CST, local law enforcement reported people trapped in vehicles on flooded roads near Jean Street in Latimer and several other water rescues across Jackson County. Between 6 and 8 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring."

Chaves Emergency Management Due to the ongoing Flooding in Chaves County, Shelter-in-Place and stay off the roads, allowing emergency crews to work. Rescue efforts are ongoing ONLY use 911 for emergencies! Additional Flooding is expected in the afternoon today. If you are under an evacuation order leave NOW. An evacuation shelter has been established at the Eastern NM State Fair Grounds

Cit of Roswell 10/20/24 0930am MT: "...Many motorists became stranded when their vehicles got stuck in flood waters on many streets. Some people had to await rescue on top of their vehicles that were covered by water. Some vehicles were swept by the water into the river channel. One fatality has been confirmed as a result of the flooding. Search-and-rescue efforts are still underway this morning. ..."

City of Roswell 10/20/24 0930am MT:

"Rescue efforts have been taking place throughout the night and continue this morning (Sunday, Oct. 20) both inside the city and in other areas in the county and surrounding communities. Water levels have receded in many parts of Roswell, but remain high in the downtown area and throughout town along the Spring River channel, which overflowed.
