US official heading Ukraine peace plan has history of empathizing with Russia
#Keith #Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy, has written op-eds and reports questioning Ukraine’s role in negotiations
Kellogg also blamed the war on the machinations of a US “military-industrial complex”
and “[Joe] Biden’s national security incompetence”
rather than Russia’s 2022 invasion,
which has been condemned across the globe and resulted in a war that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives.
Kellogg has been seen as a hawk on Russia, but he also wrote that
“the US should consider leveraging its military aid to Ukraine to make it contingent on Ukrainian officials agreeing to join peace talks with Russia”.
Earlier this month, after a disastrous Washington DC meeting with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on 28 February, US aid to Ukraine was paused, 
as was intelligence sharing.
Kellogg is also surrounded by some key staff who share a rightwing nationalist world view or have links to far-right populist figures.

You do raise the interesting question of the local rate of Keiths in South Woodham Ferrers, though. Higher or lower than the national mean. These are the important things that the ONS should be telling us, not spending thousands of pounds to get a computer to tell us the news that it has worked out that Wolverhampton is a built up area.

special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, has pushed a proposal to end the war between the two countries through Ukraine ceding land to Russia.
Why it matters:
Trump named Kellogg as his choice for special envoy on Wednesday,
months after Reuters reported on Kellogg's policy plan in June.
The plan for a ceasefire signals U.S. support for the war effort would be scaled back.
It also would mark a shift from the Biden administration's stance on the war and could be met with pushback from European allies.

Kellogg, who served as national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, co-authored a research report detailing his Ukraine policy proposal with former NSA chief of staff Fred Fleitz.
"The United States would continue to arm Ukraine and strengthen its defenses to ensure Russia will make no further advances and will not attack again after a cease-fire or peace agreement," Kellogg and Fleitz state in the plan.
But future U.S. military aid will require Ukraine to participate in peace talks with Russia, according to the report.
To convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to join peace talks, "President Biden and other NATO leaders should offer to put off NATO membership for Ukraine for an extended period in exchange for a comprehensive and verifiable peace deal with security guarantees," the pair wrote.

Many technology companies would be more benign if they were owned and governed by their users.
Users have the most to lose from tech-driven addiction and automation,
and their data generate most of the companies’ value.
️User-owners would share in this value and have an incentive to keep companies from causing harm.
How might users come together to start and run more technology companies?
Bringing together a disparate and dispersed group of people is difficult;
-- economists call this the #collective #action #problem.
Influential nonprofits such as the Center for Humane Technology and Project Liberty can play an organizing role,
incubating a new generation of user-owned social media businesses.
While it’s a competitive field with entrenched players,
social media technology is not complex,
and there is a real hunger for more benign versions.
Existing firms can also be redesigned.
Instead of raising capital from profit-seeking corporations,
OpenAI could seek funding from users and give them representation on its board.
And with users on the board, the company might take more care to launch products safely
and dedicate resources to maintaining employment.
Most important, more of the financial gains of the AI revolution would flow to the people creating the value.
