For this #monochromemonday post: Building 93 at the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center, a defunct New York State-run psychiatric hospital on the North Shore of Long Island that was open from 1885-1996. This particular building was a patient ward building, 13 stories tall, and built from 1939-1940, and opened to patients in 1941. It was vacated for good in 1992, a few years ahead of the complete closure of the hospital campus but by then, only the first four floors were actually being used. "First Label" is Raphael's way of saying "Reserve." In the big 2010 North Fork vintage, this Merlot delivers. (Long Island and Merlot--that's a thing!) It still shows fine depth, grip and length on the finish, and a classic medley of flavors, plus a touch of game. It evolves well. The fruit is mature (not dead), but the structure makes it vibrant as the complexity makes it interesting. 13.2%, under $40 in newer years (esp if you join their wine club). #wine #merlot #longisland #newyork
