Do #Highway On-Ramp Meters Actually Work? #Minneapolis Turned Them All Off To Find Out
For about six weeks, the #Minnesota Department of Transportation collected as much data as possible on traffic flow. If you could measure it or record it, they probably did. Then, on October 16, #MnDOT turned up that Christina Aguilera, temporarily switched off all 430 ramp meters, and got back to measuring and recording every variable it could.
The end result: ramp meters work.

Jalopnik · Do Highway On-Ramp Meters Actually Work? Minneapolis Turned Them All Off To Find OutBy Collin Woodard

At one of Minneapolis’ oldest watering holes and live music hubs, Palmer’s Bar, alcohol sales are down almost 20%, co-owner Pat Dwyer said. That downturn has nothing to do with declining attendance for shows, though.

“We aren’t singing the blues at Palmer’s, because we’re still seeing strong support for the live music scene that we love and care deeply about,” Dwyer said. “But we have to figure something out.”

Chicago Avenue-Taxpayer Stadium in the news.

'The Legislature created the electronic games to pay for the $350 million state share of the stadium. They were so successful the state debt was repaid 23 years early and lawmakers decided to put future proceeds into the general fund.

'That move frustrated Sen. Jeremy Miller, R-Winona, who’s also a sponsor of the bill, because he says lawmakers initially intended for some e-pulltab revenue to be used for stadium upkeep.

'“This is an asset of the state of Minnesota and it is our responsibility to maintain the stadium,” Miller said.'

"A dozen businesses in and around Minneapolis deal in salvaged building materials. They range from Wood from the Hood, which sells lumber and makes furniture from urban trees that needed to be removed, to Better Futures Minnesota, which deconstructs buildings to salvage everything from flooring and lighting to molding and bathroom fixtures."

"Miss You Much" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson. Composed by songwriters and record producers #JimmyJamAndTerryLewis, it was recorded for the singer's fourth studio album, #JanetJacksonsRhythmNation1814 (1989). As with all tracks for the album, recording took place at Lewis and Jam's Flyte Tyme Studios in #Minneapolis, #Minnesota, between 1988 and 1989. Lyrically, the song narrates a longing to reconnect with a romantic partner after time spent apart.

In #Minneapolis it is mayor Jacob Frey employing it in his genocidal attacks on unhoused people:

1. Violently displace any unhoused person seen living anywhere.

2. People without housing *die* as a result and others are driven into hiding so any count becomes an increasingly severe undercount.

3. Release your own numbers (Frey claimed only 27 unhoused people left in the city; fortunately this was so ludicrous it backfired)

4. Claim "tough" policies of forcing people into shelters works.

I was told that as of this week, #minneapolis police finally moved to encrypted comms, meaning you can’t find out what they’re up to from a scanner/app anymore. Fuck that x ten billion

It’s fitting for what feels like a new era of police hegemony. All over, states figured out faster than most of the people did that if you have a few people who listen to the police radio and a few more people who respond to events in the neighborhood, you can mitigate a lot of police terror…. And the state can’t allow that to happen.
