Blade is the 4th book in Linda Nagata’s Inverted Frontier series.

It’s a sequel to her earlier series: The Nanotech Succession. These books describe a civilization that has mastered nanotechnology, to the extent that mind uploading and new bodies on demand are possible, so everyone is essentially immortal. At least if they can survive in a dangerous universe.

I can't honestly think of a #sciencefiction #posthuman future society that's lived rent free in my head longer and more vibrantly than Ian Banks's Culture novels.

Maybe it's the idea of humanity existing in a post money, post work space where people figure out what they want to do with their lives and.... DO THAT :)

Or maybe it's the fact that the humans of that world have incredible control over their bodies.

You can simply decide whether or not you want to constantly shed DNA leavings of yourself, or, if you're currently female, you want to get pregnant or not.

I know there are plenty of cautionary tale aspects there too. The protagonist in The Player Of Games was arguably used ,abused and then ulimately discarded by The Machines in pursuit of growing The Culture, but for some reason I don't care and would very much enjoy at LEAST vacationing there if not living there permamently :)

It seems like there are a lot of folx on #bluesky studying #posthumanism, and a lot less on #mastodon . Mastodon seems like a much more #posthuman space… I wonder why those scholars gravitate towards Bluesky instead. I love my mastodon community, so I’m sticking around here, but it just seems weird.

I’ve decided to dive into the world of Ursula Le Guin’s children’s books! Wow, that writer is amazing! Some of her stories have brought me to tears (“Fire and Stone”) and others have lit up my heart. Children’s books are such a wonderful way to connect with the “self,” and Le Guin’s technology for that purpose is especially unique.

I specifically want to highlight the book titled, “Tom Mouse,” as it encapsulates a #posthuman mindset very well. It also might be my new favorite story, it’s just unique and amazing in wonderful ways! This is a colorful story where diverse beings come together to bring more joy to each other’s lives. It gives voice to marginalized populations including mice, moons, stars, humans of diverse color, age, gender. An excellent example of #DEI
