That's Sonic CD finished. It's a curious game really, like a window into an alternate universe where Sonic games took a completely different approach.

Sonic 1 was always a bit more slow paced than the sequels with a hint of exploration, and CD really leant into the exploration side of that.

This is technically 4-5 games, depending on how you count Sonic 3 & Knuckles, that I finished over the last week or so?

This was my first time finishing , and I *have* finally gained an appreciation for the game's exploration-focused play style, but I still don't like its UFO Hunt special stages.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles remains my favorite, despite the changes to the music.

Amy is cute, and it's great that she's playable now.

One version is entirely in 2D like the #Sega #Genesis games. The other version is entirely in 3D, like #SonicAdventure. These are supposed to be, essentially, the same stage, but the versatility of Sonic lets them take each interpretation in completely different directions. That's one of my favorite things about these #games, going all the way back to #SonicCD with their Bad Futures: #Sonic #Games can be bright and cheery or dark and edgy and both moods fit like a glove. Awesome game.

The #SegaCD came with an ASIC for scaling and rotating sprites. This was likely used in the #SonicCD special stages to create the Mode7 effect for the tracks, and possibly other #games

But #Sega never ported their arcade super scalers to it. Instead they did ports of #Afterburner on the #32x a few years later where they do all the scaling in CPU!

I'm so curious why this is! Was the #hardware hard to use? Was there additional benefit to using the 32x's CPUs?
