Fiołek wonny zasiedla Europę, północną część Afryki, Azję. Gatunek został introdukowany w Ameryce Północnej, gdzie stał się gatunkiem inwazyjnym. U nas jest to gatunek obcy. Rośnie w lasach liściastych i zaroślach. Występuje głównie na niżu. Wymaga żyznej, próchniczej gleby. Preferuje cień i półcień.

Found the white violet. A post/pole and many plugs cut for daffodils were put in near where it is but it ended up being right between two daffodils instead of dug up and lost.
