@yosh In the case of Canada the word "Anschluss" also comes to mind. One key difference though is that Austria was in no way committed to resisting being absorbed by Nazi Germany.
Invasion can be and should be resisted by force, and not just by governments that can surrender but by militias and insurgent groups so nobody can surrender for everyone else.
I will be siding with Canada, with Greenland, and with Panama if Trump gets his wars. Hell maybe they will help us resist from inside the US in the process as Britain aided the French Resistance and German anti-Nazi groups.
Don't say the US can't be beaten by these countries, many thought Gaza could not beat Israel either only to be proven wrong.
