Found a solution.

Create a user unit file in /etc/systemd/user, which can be enabled for loginctl linger-users, which just continuously watches on the Hugo content path …
i.e.

> systemctl enable --user --now hugo@$(systemd-escape $HOME/wwwroot/domain)

A snapshot of my (prepaid) expenses so far this year using NearlyFreeSpeech.net to host my #Hugo and #Faircamp sites.

(the deposit fee is for dumping another 20 bucks in my account)

Leaving aside deposit fees and domain name registration, it costs me about $0.12 per day to run both sites as "production." I could with only a little effort consolidate them into one site and cut that in half. And "non-production" sites cost a fraction of this, even.

A table labeled "2024 Expenses," showing by-month, total, and average costs for DNS, deposit fees, and site charges. January is a typical month, showing a 3-cent DNS charge and a $3.10 site charge. In total, the sites have cost $7.63 so far this year.

Guys... my new dedicated server #tabarnix is performing so well. It feels like all my websites (such as they are lol) can finally stretch out in the sun…

I just cancelled by accounts with Web Host Canada (should hopefully get a decent refund from them for the balance of the year) so the switch is now permanent.

I admit to being a little intimidated by learning Docker right now. Even though it seems pretty intuitive, I'm reluctant to just jam it onto my new server and I don't feel like I have the mental bandwidth to spin something else up as a trial. But I'll get there.

When I do, I'll be able to see about moving over this mastodon instance to #tabarnix from #FootiMac

For now, the trusty old iMac continues to perform its duties very admirably.
