Emma Caracal ** ANIMAL FACTS ** The caracal is a fascinating feline that lives in different environments compared to its relatives. Although servals and caracals are similar in size, servals love to hunt in wetter areas, while caracals are perfectly adapted to the drier regions of Africa and the Middle East. It's amazing how these cats thrive in such varied habitats!

Dryden Bobcat *** ANIMAL FACTS *** The bobcat, characterized by its distinctively fluffy cheeks, prominent ear tufts, and abbreviated tail, is recognized as the most widely distributed wild cat species throughout North America. Its adaptability to various environments contributes to its extensive range across the continent.

Today i learned that woodpeckers eyes have evolved to be fixed in position so they don't get damaged when they hammer. If they want to look around, they have to turn their heads.

Also woodpeckers have evolved probing tongues that are SO LONG that the hyoid channel that holds them wraps *right around the back of their skull*

I feel sure that there is a complex woodpecker-walks-into-a-bar joke there somewhere, but I'm too tired to even think about it

Edit: brain squirrels came up with one overnight

#TIL Red Pandas are the only animals in their family, Ailuridae. There are two species of them that look the same, and we've accidentally been interbreeding those species for years. Red Pandas were called "pandas" before Panda Bears were called pandas.

#PandaBears are (you guessed it) unrelated to #RedPandas. They're not related to raccoons, or to foxes, though they look kinda similar to both.

I don't have a cute image for you, but tagging exists for reasons.

#TIL that the reason male Amazon river dolphins are pink is due to scarring from battles.
In other words, in Amazon river dolphin culture, pink is associated with toughness.

#TIL there was a breed of "woolly" dog sheared like sheep, its fur used as wool.
I heard this in the #podcast "Stuff You Missed in History Class" iheart.com/podcast/105-stuff-y
