Ooh one of the millipedes molted! I can see the white husk down on the side of the terrarium. New pair of legs!

An isopod is already on it. The molt won't last a day, isopods LOVE to eat crunchy exoskeletons, and this biggish millipede skin is a huge score. This must have happened overnight.

außerdem hab ich euch einen putzigen sehr kleinen tausendfüßer, korrekter einen schnurfüßer mitgebracht. was für einer genau lässt sich aufgrund der der kontraststärke im gegenlicht geschuldeten detailarmut nicht sagen.

auf hier mit recht grob erscheinendem split versehenem asphalt krabbelt ein tausendfüßer von rechts nach links. der split ist aber gar nicht so grob, der tausendfüßer ist nur so klein. das schlauchförmige tierchen läuft auf frei geschätzt um die 100 kleinen beinchen, die hier im gegenlicht der sonne zwischen dem tier und dem von ihm geworfenen schatten als schwarze strichlein zu sehen sind. details der beinchen oder des ganzen tiers gehen im hohen kontrast zwischen dem hellen sonnenlicht und dem schwarz des tieres sowie der schatten unter. oben auf dem tausendfüßer glänzen die ränder der körpersegmente weiß im licht, als sei das tier gestreift, was es aber nicht ist. das ganze bild ist fast schwarz-weiß, auch die wenigen farbigen split-steinchen im asphalt sind eher blass.

Millipedes! We have a lot of them, mostly living in the soil and under debris, helping with the breakdown of dead matter. This one is in the family Julidae.

Nice variety out on the cucumber!

Flat backed millipede and springtail in Stanley Park!
Catching the millipede while it was sitting still was probably the most difficult part of this - it kept running around and making my photos blurry.

I have a special love for Rhiscosomides meineri, this little millipede. I've been finding them a lot in my local area, and I was the first person to have a confirmed record of it on iNaturalist - I even got to submit the request to add the species to the database!

I was real excited that a millipede was saved, lo and behold there are two! And I caught them getting familiar with each other. These are some kind of order Polydesmida millipedes, you can see the double-keel on their backs.

New terrarium inhabitant, rescued from a raccoon accident. Long story that I will share soon.

The blue is the "night" mode of the full spectrum lamp above the isopod home.

I was happier to see this giant Narceus millipede in hill country yesterday than it was to see me. It curled into this defensive spiral and just sat there. Made a nice photo, though. With bonus mites, if you look closely.
