@transitionalaspect Substitutes must be made to replace the role of the megafauna in the native prairie grass biome. As you note, there are issues with a fenced bison compared to a free ranging herd. We have spots of rewilded prairie in the yard. We have runner ducks in the role of eating greens and fertilizing the soil. We mow bits of the prairie in the spring, about a quarter, leaving some habitat, about three quarters. Part 1. #nativeplants, #nomow, #rewilding, #minnesota.

#HealAll - #PrunellaVulgaris
#WhiteClover - #TrifoliumRepens

Both are #edible & #medicinal #plants. Both are much better than lawn grass. They attract a lot of #pollinators🐝 👍🐝

Heal all is used in a lot of #ChineseTraditionalMedicine & #Chinese #HerbalTeas. Wong Lo Kat is a commercial canned herbal tea with heal all as a main ingredient.

In North America, the #Nlakapamuk #Salishan #Indigenous peoples make cold infused, refreshing drinks with them. Several other #FirstNations in #BritishColumbia & #PacificNorthwest areas also harvested it for medicinal uses.

Lots of different native plants, some introduced beneficial plants, some edible & medicinal plants - closer to ground & not visible in vid. The mixed tall grasses, buckwheat, alfalfa, buttercups & dandelions are between 2-4 feet tall now. I'm doing ongoing soil remediation as part of my longterm rewilding project. Aiming to create a suburban backyard food forest - pollinators/wildlife friendly gardens will be part of it all 😀

A good wildlife garden is more than just a corner of a garden left to go wild. Whether you are creating a new wildlife garden, or have an established one, think of it as a nature reserve and you as being the warden. This is going to be a fine year for the wildlife garden.

I did my first mini mow for my #NoMow yard.

It has been one year since the main part was cut

I do the strip in front and the side yard to show intentional long grass

I have sown some wildflower seeds (no sprouts or natural seeding yet) and punched a few turf holes for plantings

Three different angles of a small front
yard with a one mower wide strip freshly cut

The main yard has grass 3 to 6 inches tall

I also have a few bird feeders and decorations
