I make a lot of use of timed mutes. It's a great feature and you should use it too.
Sometimes there's this pattern where I keep re-muting people and it would be nice if mastodon would show me some statistics on how long I've been doing that for because like eventually you gotta ask yourself if this is just something they're going through in the moment or if that's just, like, who they are now and maybe it's time to part ways.
@aeva I sometimes manually put it in the notes field on the account, but it'd be nice if it could add that automatically
@HeNeArXn a little log thing would be handy for sure
@aeva
For real. The muting flow should bring you to (or present an option to go to) a muting view that shows you this. Timing is an imperfect proxy for "I never will want to see this person again nor be reminded of their existence " vs as you say "check in again. Tools for self moderation need subtlety in the unmute direction as well
Great points. It's a very useful feature, and as with so many useful features here it's frustrating because it could be a lot better!

@aeva I experience this problem less, bc my timed mutes are always < 24 hours and the reason is more ilke "I don't want to hear about XYZ right now, I'm not in the mood" -- and later today or tomorrow, I might be
So overall, I think that < 24 hr timed mutes are Mastodon's best feature

I often find the max 7 days mute too short; often I want to mute someone “until they’re older and hopefully wiser”, and obviously 7 days is too short for that.
@aeva ive definitely muted peeps, then a couple of years later realized that i should have just unfollowed them
