At no point did the book scold me because I have a whole-house ad blocker.
At no point did the book invite me to set up an account to continue reading.
At the end of the book, it simply ended, without immediately showing me additional, less relevant books.
Books. On paper! Who knew?
@vkc You can even lend and borrow them with friends and family without authorising any devices or dealing with DRM. There are even whole buildings called libraries dedicated to doing this en masse for free. It’s like a socialist fever dream
@slembcke (If you're like me, check on their e-reading offerings. I used to walk miles to get to mine in person but stopped when the plague years began. And now I get antsy every nine minutes while distracted from physical books, because I expect the words to disappear if I don't briefly interact with the pages.
