I may do that, but I don't think a petition is going to make any difference to ICE or Trump. The courts are doing a good job so far of upholding the law. I'm looking for a way to help him with paying his lawyer.

@Professor_Stevens @donray I'm of your view when it comes to petitions these days. Ditto editorials in newspapers or "strongly worded letters", or anything else of that ilk. The parameters have fundamentally changed. X is back up now, so I'm going to look for some information on how to donate, as originally asked.
As an aside, with regard to your point about the courts, I think the operative words there are "so far".

Yup. I'm not against petition, letters, etc. Every little bit helps. But, anecdotally: I was an elected official once. I got shown a fair number of petitions. The ones with ink on paper made an impression on me. The ones on the web always had eight-billion "signatures" and, when I asked people about the statement, I found out most of them didn't actually read it first. Clicking is just too easy to mean much.

And, yeah, so far. But you fight with what you got.

@Professor_Stevens @donray Oh, I'm not against them per se either, but I don't put any faith in them either, particularly online ones. I've seen enough of them here with actual millions of signatures be "debated in Parliament" - half a dozen dusty old gits in Westminster Hall (not the Commons chamber), chuntering for an hour with zero results. It's called slacktivism for a reason after all.
You fight with what you've got until you get new things to fight with. We need to find them NOW.

@Professor_Stevens @donray For sure, I'm not going to denigrate anyone for doing or not doing one thing or another - we all have different abilities, time constraints etc. What I mean to say is that those who are willing to have to start thinking outside the box.

Is the habeas petition online anywhere public? Those tend to be pretty pro forma, but they are sometimes detailed. Would like to see that.

One thing we had going for us in Trump 1.0 is that he insists on arguing all cases the same way: I'm the president so I have unlimited power. That always loses. Here, he is seeking to revoke legal resident status by inferring from Khalil's speech that he's giving aid to terrorists. That's a 1A violation. No president has that much power.

I'm disinclined to rule out entirely an as yet unforeseen development, but I don't know enough about US law to even speculate about that.

Somewhat surprisingly, it leaves his attorney's email address visible. I've emailed her to ask about donations for legal costs. Will post any reply I can.

I imagine she's in four-alarm mode right now. That order you found calls for some serious lawyering on a very short schedule. With any luck, though, I won't be the only one asking and a paralegal or other staffer can answer such emails.

God, I cannot believe the United States of America is arresting people without charges, detaining them in sequestration, because of things they say. Yet, I have to, because it's happening.
