Why do citizens of the #fediverse appear to favour 'boosting' posts, over just 'liking' them? I was never a big Twitter fiend, but the culture around appreciating stuff seems different?
@dynamite_ready Since there's no algorithms (except the discover tab), the next best way for people to find new accounts is with boosted posts.
The highest honour a post can get is you showing your followers the post, you know?
@maksu @dynamite_ready Basically this. In Fedi, "liking/faving" a toot ends up being used more as a read receipt. It's largely just between you and the author. It gets saved in your "favourites" and the author gets a notification from your interaction
"Boosting" then becomes the only way of "adding reach" to a toot. The action that makes more people see it (other than actively joining the discussion, etc...)
