Well crap, it looks like COVID might have permanently ruined citrus for me. I've been throwing out grapefruits thinking they had gone bad, but I just realized all citrus smells like garbage to me now. Anyone else get this side effect? https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/coronavirus/parosmia-covid
@anna My son in law lost smell after Covid. Now after a year he says food is starting to taste like before. So there is hope I guess .
@anna my ability to smell was completely messed up for months. Lots of random garbage smells. A year in, I think it's mostly correct, just diminished.
@shanemmathews whew that's a huge relief that it does go back to normal eventually.
@anna had similar for week-two after covid, but it fine latter. I heard similar stories - some people say it take year+ for them to back to norm... but better visit doctor and dont trust internet in health questions.
@anna A friend of mine had something similar, weird taste issues for months. His doctor actually had him do a course of paxlovid which helped a lot.
@anna my mother had similar with mushrooms for a long time after she had Covid - like, it might have been a year or two, she couldn't stomach them at all. Totally fine again now though.
I read somewhere that it was certain food types that contain something which your Covid-distorted senses exaggerate the flavour of, effectively making those foods taste of vomit. I can't remember now where I read this, but it made scientific sense at least.
@anna this thread gives some hope too https://lemmy.world/post/10343859
