Experimenting with different quest icons to move away from the overused ! and ?
- Sad face: I have a quest for you to do.
- Neutral face: You took the quest but haven't completed it yet.
- Happy face: You completed the quest but haven't turned it in yet.
@grumpygamer my suggestion is more work and potentially less visible, but how about having them wave to you for available quest, stamp their feet (Rockford in Boulder Dash style) after you accepted it and clap or cheer after completion?
@eobet Player clarity is the most important aspect and animations just don't do that. It takes too much brain space to parse animations. Other games have tired this and it never works.
@grumpygamer interesting... to me, unless everything on screen is animated (like wind effects), animations is what stands out the most... I'd argue then that getting intuitive symbols right is equally tricky (hence the constant reuse you mention). Either way, looking forward to seeing what you end up with!
