Hi hello!! Yesterday was the start of the #StudyBuddyJam2024! You've got until December 8th to pick up something to learn, like a new game engine, tool, or asset, and make something using your newfound know-how!
https://indietsushin.net/jams.html
I'll be posting in this thread some game engines and other tools that might give you some ideas!
Game Engines Database by @henriquelalves: Just what it says on the tin, a database of game engines and tools, organized by tags and filters to narrow down what you want to make. There's even a "random engine" button!
Let's Program a Puzzle Game! by @Pearacidic: Learn how to make a #PuzzleGame in #GBStudio! Download the project files and mess around with them, and follow along with the tutorial on #GBCentral. A great way to get started with a fun and free tool to make #GameBoy games!
Day 3 of #StudyBuddyJam2024: Something I struggle with when going through tutorials is how I sometimes feel like I'm accruing knowledge just for the sake of it, without an endgoal in mind. So I appreciate how Lazy Devs has these great playlists of YouTube tutorials on making full, fun #PICO8 games from start to finish!
WOW okay I am sorry for falling so behind on updating this thread of #StudyBuddyJam2024 ideas!! We have just finished the first weekend of the jam, but there's still about a month left to start and make something cool. Let's do this!!
Downpour by @v: Make a game on your phone in minutes using photos, text, and drawings, and hypertext links! No coding involved, and games can be shared and played in your browser
Life Simulator Engine (LiSE) by @clayote: Make a Maxis-style sim game! Instead of save files, this engine features time travel, i.e. everything that happened during play gets recorded in a database. If you are familiar with Python and are interested in sims, check this out!
Decker by Internet Janitor: HyperCard for the modern era! Make browser-based games, zines, toys, and more using this simple-yet-powerful tool. You can get started without knowing any coding at all, or learn the scripting language Lil to add more functionality to your decks
Tiny binksi Visual Novel template by @PRINCESSINTERNETCAFe: Get started with binksi, a hybrid of bipsi, a tool to make simple lo-fi games, and the narrative writing style of Ink. Get your feet wet by playing around with this super helpful tutorial to make a short visual novel!

Tiny tools directory by @abundance: A roundup of open source and experimental tiny tools, organized with handy tags. Covers all manner of digital assets and other resources as well. Definitely bookmark this for future reference!
Missed yesterday's tooltip but it's fine! I am here now with two!!
Electric Zine Maker by @alienmelon: Make fun #zines with this fun software! A photo zine about your last vacation, a fan zine about your favorite new TV show, your own hand-drawn original comic about what you would do if your cat had superpowers, idk! Make something fun and then send it to me so I can read it!!
pixsy, mixsy, and tilesy by @tinybird: So you've been playing around with vanilla #bitsy but want to start adding more fun stuff that you've been seeing in other people's games. Here's a pack of fun tools to add more functionality to bitsy! Add dithered images/photos, combine games, and import tile/spritesheets into your bitsy projects and do more stuff:
