I'm super fucking pissed off that #Corvallis never gets any revenue coming its way for tech-based regional #infrastructure.
It's always the same song and dance over here whether working within a university or writing up a grant by way of a SBA loan.
Apply for grant, and then either get accepted or rejected.
Now that works for a percentage of people. It's not inherently a bad system.
But for people such as me who are trying to make revenue by starting out through sole proprietorships and self-employment, this is simply not doable.
THE MONEY IS NOT THERE. And it's not just because western #Oregon's economy is lackluster.
It's because of what I was referring to, before. These whales in business screw the whole business ecosystem up for the rest of us technologists on a regular basis through both their malfeasance and interfering in others' business practices by way of tactics such as corporate espionage.
It's gotten so bad that VC's, investors, and the like will not touch any decent tech project outside of the Silicon Valley region unless it is fully backed by series-type funding to begin with. Series funding is kind of a hard way to make revenue. You must have around a minimum of ~ 50 employees and jump through all sorts of financial and regulatory hoops.
THAT is why many of us say that the whole finance system is broken. We need improvements to capital funding and "angel investing" so more startups can thrive in this cut-throat market -- where foreign governments hack servers to steal our intellectual property and other big corporations outsource many jobs to India.
Cut and dry, that is really all there is to it. Improve the finance so most of us can be better off, over the long-term.
